Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: what it measures, pricing, alternatives

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is Semrush's add-on for measuring how often ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode bring up a brand. You pay $99 a month per domain on annual billing, which buys 25 prompts you pick, checked daily, plus reports drawn from a database of more than 317 million prompts. Teams whose SEO already lives in Semrush get the most out of it; if AI answers are all you want to watch, a dedicated tracker can cover the same engines for less.

We read Semrush's pricing page and knowledge base on October 22, 2026, and the alternatives' pricing pages that day too, with SE Visible, Similarweb, AthenaHQ and Scrunch read again on October 29. We publish Hypervisible: it comes first among the alternatives in this review, and here are the facts behind that. For the 25 prompts Semrush's toolkit tracks at $99 per domain, Hypervisible Solo costs €49 a month (the first 15 accounts pay €29) and reads all five engines in one weekly pass, Perplexity and both Google AI features included. Its section lists its limits under the same rule as everyone else's. Our comparison of AI visibility tools sets these trackers side by side on price, engines and frequency.

What the AI Visibility Toolkit tracks

The toolkit tracks two things: how often AI answers mention your brand across Semrush's own prompt database, and how you show up for the prompts you pick and track daily. It does this through six reports.

  • Visibility Overview. An AI Visibility Score from 0 to 100 for any domain, built on Semrush's database of prompts on ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode, and benchmarked against the median of competitors Semrush identifies for you.
  • Competitor Research. The topics and prompts where a competitor gets cited and you don't.
  • Prompt Research. Keyword research for AI: estimated volume, difficulty and intent by topic.
  • Brand Performance. Share of voice, sentiment and cited sources on AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, for one domain, refreshed weekly.
  • Prompt Tracking. Your 25 prompts, checked daily, with mentions, your domain's position among the cited sources, and a Sources report listing every page the AI cited.
  • AI Search Site Audit. A check for issues that stop AI crawlers from reading your pages, on up to 100 pages.

Engine coverage depends on the report, and Semrush's help pages don't all list the same engines. The Prompt Tracking setup guide offers ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini; the Semrush One help page lists AI Overviews for prompt tracking too. Perplexity shows up only in the weekly Brand Performance reports. Claude and Microsoft Copilot aren't on any of the lists.

Location coverage is wide. Prompt Tracking supports more than 220 countries and territories, and Brand Performance can be set to any of more than 68,000 locations, from whole countries down to cities. A dental group in Atlanta can set its brand reports to Atlanta rather than the whole United States.

Semrush is also candid about what the numbers mean. Its data help page says AI answers change fast and vary by user, so no platform can give exact visibility figures, and it presents its metrics as directional signals for spotting trends. That's the right way to read any AI visibility tool, ours included.

Pricing in 2026

Bought on its own, the AI Visibility Toolkit is $99 a month per domain on annual billing. Semrush also bundles it with the SEO Toolkit in Semrush One plans, from $199 a month.

Semrush's own prices, read on its site on October 22, 2026.
PlanPrice per monthAI prompts tracked dailyAlso included
AI Visibility Toolkit$99 per domain, billed annually251 domain in Brand Performance, prompt and competitor research
Starter (Semrush One)$19950SEO Toolkit with 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily
Pro+ (Semrush One)$29910015 websites, 1,500 keywords, historical SEO data
Advanced and EnterpriseCustomCustom limits40+ websites and API; SSO and audit logs on Enterprise

Annual billing saves up to 17%, according to the pricing page. Semrush's own blog puts Starter at just over $165 a month and Pro+ at just over $248 when billed annually.

The add-ons add up. Fifty more tracked prompts cost $60 a month. Each extra domain or location in Brand Performance costs $99. The toolkit can't be split through shared limits, so every teammate who needs it takes a separate $99 license. An agency that wants Brand Performance for five client brands pays $99 for each, or $495 a month, before any extra prompts.

Semrush still sells SEO-only plans. Its knowledge base lists the SEO Toolkit at just under $140 (Pro), $250 (Guru) and $500 (Business) a month. The pricing page now leads with a single SEO plan that has Pro's limits, 5 websites and 500 keywords; per the knowledge base, it includes AI visibility reports but no dedicated prompt-tracking quota.

Strengths and limits

Most of what the toolkit does well comes from Semrush's SEO data. What holds it back is the small prompt allowance, and paying again for every seat.

Where it does well:

  • SEO and AI in one place. Prompt Tracking can set your AI positions side by side with Google, Bing or Baidu rankings for the same location, in the same interface your SEO team already uses.
  • Prompt volumes. Prompt Research estimates demand by topic, which helps you decide which questions deserve one of your 25 slots.
  • Sources. The Sources report groups every cited page by category (your site, competitors, social, knowledge bases) and shows your mention rate next to each one.
  • Crawler checks. Site Audit flags whether your site blocks AI crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot or Claude-SearchBot.

Where it is thinner:

  • 25 prompts. Enough for one product line in one market. A company selling three services in four cities runs out fast.
  • Pricing per domain and per user. Agencies and teams with several brands or several analysts pay for each.
  • Engines vary by report. Perplexity data refreshes weekly, and Claude and Copilot aren't covered.
  • Share of voice is weekly. The Prompt Tracking guide says share of voice and estimated traffic aren't available for AI engines there, so share of voice comes from the weekly Brand Performance reports.
  • No free trial for the toolkit alone. The knowledge base says so plainly; the 7-day trial applies to Semrush One.

Who it suits

The toolkit suits in-house SEO teams and agencies that already pay for Semrush and want AI answers next to their keyword data. Nobody on those teams has to learn a new tool.

A SaaS company whose marketing team tracks 300 keywords in Semrush every day is the clearest case: adding 25 prompts on ChatGPT, AI Mode and Gemini costs $99 and needs no new login. An agency that already reports SEO from Semrush can add AI visibility for a few clients, as long as it counts the per-domain cost. What to show a client each month is the subject of our guide to AI visibility reporting for agencies.

It's a harder sell for a family law firm in Columbus that only wants to know whether ChatGPT recommends it: the firm would pay for SEO features nobody there will open. Teams that need Claude or Copilot should look elsewhere, and so should brands that need dozens of prompts per market. Large multi-brand organizations get pointed by Semrush itself toward its Enterprise AIO offer.

Hypervisible: the first alternative we list, and why

Hypervisible is the AI visibility tracker we publish. It heads the alternatives here for reasons you can check against the Semrush figures above.

  • Price per prompt. Solo costs €49 a month and covers one brand with 25 questions and 8 competitors; the first 15 accounts pay €29, with no commitment. Semrush asks $99 per domain on annual billing for 25 prompts, and every extra seat is another $99 license.
  • Five engines in one report. Every plan reads Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode in the same pass as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, where Semrush's engine list changes from one report to the next and Perplexity only shows up weekly in Brand Performance.
  • Room for a team. Pro, at €149, covers 3 brands with 40 questions each, 10 competitors and 5 users; Business, at €449, covers 10 brands and 15 users. Billed yearly, the monthly figures are €39, €119 and €369.
  • Who builds it. NEXUS GEO, the French agency behind it, works only on GEO. Its founder, Martin Noale, was educated at ESSCA and worked for several years on how brands get seen in international B2B markets: China, the United States, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Each Monday, the paid plans put the same questions again. You see how far the citation rate, the average position and the ranking against rivals moved, in points, plus which sites were cited and how the answers describe you. The limits fit in one line: a weekly reading where Semrush checks daily, no Claude or Copilot, and no SEO data alongside. Our free AI visibility analysis gives you a first reading before you pay anyone.

Alternatives by need

Choose an alternative by the job you need done: a dedicated AI tracker, a suite that adds AI tracking to other data, or a longer list of engines. The suites look different from the SEO side, and our AI SEO tools roundup covers that angle.

A dedicated AI visibility tracker

Hypervisible, our own tracker, is covered in the section above: 25 questions on five engines, read every Monday, from €49 a month. It suits a team that wants AI answers without paying for an SEO suite nobody will open.

A suite with AI tracking next to other data

  • SE Visible (SE Ranking). The Basic plan, at €80 a month on October 29, 2026 (€64 billed yearly), covers 5 projects and 75 prompts. Those run every day on four engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, AI Overviews), without Perplexity, across seven countries and five languages. You get 10 days of trial.
  • Similarweb AEO Intelligence. One user and 150 prompts for $129 a month, or $99 if you pay yearly. Data refreshes daily on ChatGPT, AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity, and the same plan reports AI Traffic, the visits that AI platforms send you.

A longer list of engines

AthenaHQ Starter costs $295 a month for 3,600 credits, one credit being one AI response, spread over 11 engines that include AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral; yearly billing takes 17% off. Scrunch's Starter plan is $300 a month ($250 on annual billing) for 350 custom prompts and 3 seats on seven engines, Claude and Meta among them, and its 7-day trial doesn't ask for a card. Both fill the gap Semrush leaves on Claude, at about three times the toolkit's price.

Other comparisons on this site look at plans that sell engines as add-ons, plans where you pick three engines, enterprise platforms sold after a demo and prompt indexes that benchmark a whole category.

For AI tracking alone at around $100 a month, SE Visible Basic includes 75 prompts (€80) and Similarweb 150 on annual billing, against 25 in the Semrush toolkit. Semrush's case rests on the bundle: at $199, Starter adds the SEO Toolkit and 500 daily keywords to 50 prompts. AthenaHQ and Scrunch cost about three times the toolkit, and both read Claude.

If you've never measured your brand in AI answers, get a baseline before you pick a tool. Hypervisible's free AI visibility checker gives you one from 10 questions sent to the same five AIs, 5 on your industry without your name and 5 with it. Getting through the 50 answers takes it 5 to 10 minutes; leave your credit card in your wallet. Our own plans are listed on the pricing page.

Measuring is only half the job: what Hypervisible hands you next

A tracker, Semrush's or ours, tells you how often AI answers name your brand. The numbers move only when something changes on the pages the AIs read, and the tool's job is to show you which pages those are.

Hypervisible, which we publish, gives you material to act on. For each question, it lists the sites the AIs cited: a comparison page, a review site, a YouTube video, a Reddit thread. Your brand needs to be named there. It records what the AIs say about you and in what tone, so a wrong price or an old address comes to light and gets fixed on your site and your listings. It shows which brands get cited in your place. The change in points each Monday then tells you whether a fix worked. Our team can also review your tracking and adjust the questions and competitors to your market.

Its limit: Hypervisible measures and shows where to act. It doesn't write your content, and it doesn't get other sites to cite you. The deeper work (content, site structure, structured data, reviews, a presence on the sources the AIs read) calls for a GEO agency working with the brand over months. NEXUS GEO, the agency that publishes Hypervisible, does that work, and yes, that's our own team.

SEO lifts a page in Google's list of links, and GEO gets a brand named and cited inside an AI's answer. The two support each other, since AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on indexed pages, while the AIs also read forums, videos and reviews and answer with brand names, so each has its own methods and its own measures.

Your brand

The free analysis asks 10 questions to five AI engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode), reads the 50 answers in 5 to 10 minutes and keeps your dashboard in your account.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99 a month per domain, billed annually, according to Semrush's pricing page and knowledge base on October 22, 2026. That covers 25 prompts tracked daily and one domain in the Brand Performance reports. Fifty more prompts cost $60 a month, each extra domain $99, and each extra user needs a $99 license. Semrush One plans, which bundle SEO and AI tracking, start at $199 a month.

Does Semrush track ChatGPT and Gemini?

Yes. The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit tracks ChatGPT and Gemini, along with Google AI Mode and AI Overviews. Daily prompt tracking can be set up for ChatGPT Search, AI Mode or Gemini, according to Semrush's help pages. Perplexity appears in the Brand Performance reports, which update weekly. Claude and Microsoft Copilot are not listed as tracked engines in any of the help pages we read on October 22, 2026.

What are the best Semrush alternatives?

Hypervisible, which we publish, is the one we suggest looking at first: €49 a month (€29 for the first 15 accounts) for 25 questions on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and both Google AI features, read weekly, with no SEO suite to pay for. Among the other tools in this review, SE Visible Basic (€80 for 75 daily prompts) and Similarweb AEO Intelligence ($129, or $99 billed annually, for 150) include more prompts than the $99 toolkit, and AthenaHQ and Scrunch add Claude from $295. Prices read October 22 and 29, 2026.

Is there a free Semrush AI checker?

Yes. Semrush's free AI Search Visibility Checker takes a domain and returns an AI Visibility Score, mentions, citations, top cited pages and a breakdown across ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode. You enter only a domain, so you don't choose the prompts. Hypervisible's free analysis works from questions instead: 10 of them, 5 on your industry that don't name you and 5 that do, go to five AIs, and the 50 answers are read in 5 to 10 minutes, with no card.

Does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit have a free trial?

No. Semrush's knowledge base says the AI Visibility Toolkit has no free trial when bought on its own. Free account holders can try Semrush One, which bundles the SEO and AI Visibility toolkits, for 7 days. Hypervisible, which we publish, takes a different route: its free analysis reads 50 answers from five AIs about your brand, with no card and no trial clock running, and keeps the results in your account.

Is Semrush One worth it over the toolkit alone?

Semrush One makes sense if you also need the SEO Toolkit. Starter costs $199 a month for 50 daily prompts, 500 tracked keywords and 5 websites, against $99 for the toolkit's 25 prompts alone. If you already pay for Semrush SEO, compare the upgrade with adding the toolkit to your plan. If you don't use Semrush for SEO, a dedicated AI tracker usually costs less for the same number of prompts.

Is an AI visibility tool enough to get cited?

No. Hypervisible, which we publish, shows where to act: the sites the AIs cite on your questions, what they say about you and in what tone, who gets named in your place, and each Monday's change in points. It doesn't write your content or get other sites to cite you. That deeper work falls to your team or to a GEO agency such as NEXUS GEO, which publishes Hypervisible. GEO complements SEO, with its own methods and measures.
